About the Bill: SB 5830 / HB 1270

Prior to the start of the 2024 Washington state legislative session, the bipartisan bill establishing a Washington state commission on boys and men was filed in the Senate as SB 5830 and in the House of Representatives as HB 1270. View our one-pager that explains this legislation. The prime sponsor of the Senate bill was Senator John Lovick (D-Mill Creek), and the prime sponsor of the House bill was Representative Mary Dye (R-Pomeroy).

For a Washington state commission on boys and men to be established, the legislature in Olympia must pass a bill and the governor must sign it. When neither SB 5830 nor HB 1270 received a public hearing by the January 31 policy committee cutoff, the bill ‘died’ for the 2024 session.

We are continually building political support for establishing a Washington state commission on boys and men, and we plan to be back for the 2025 legislative session. Contact us to learn about how you can help us advocate for this legislation.
